Words of an Ailing Husband

I know I have much more pressing things to do at this moment than post a blog entry, however being in the moment I just couldn't pass it up. I sit here with 20 minutes before I have to pick Madison up from dance. YES, both girls made it to school today and for FULL days! We only got rain and none of it freezing which means Madison's 4th grade musical as well as Kennedy's talent show are both on the docket for the evening. I sit in the midst of 6 boxes piled high in my office needing to be unpacked so that 14 orders can get bagged up and shipped out by tomorrow AM. The dust bunnies are still congregating and I wonder if I will possibly survive until next Monday. Yet, what an appropriate time for a blog entry. Call it procrastination!

I know tonight will be a late night trying to close up my office before heading out of town tomorrow. I still have 10 women to reach for the 3rd clinic that needs to be rescheduled for the weekend. Bags to pack, wash to be done and I am guessing the bunnies will get to play all weekend long! They seem to be multiplying each time I come home! But then again, I guess that IS what bunnies do!

Mr. Milo is SICK. This morning as I was getting ready to leave for an early day, he was on the docket to drop kids at school. Now remember in the last 10 years, that has been my primary responsibility come cough, cold, flu, broken limbs, bum backs, and crutches.

From the depths of the covers came a very WEAK and wispy voice, 'J..i...l...l....I don't even think I can drive..cough, cough, cough....'. I rolled my eyes and immediately began to comply the long list of times that no matter what illness, disease, symptom, or broken limb; a mom just did what a mom had to do. Knowing it would do me no good to retaliate in that manner, I quietly encouraged him, 'O! honey....I am pretty sure you will be able to drive. You just have to get up and move around a little bit.' This was followed by more groaning and moaning.

Sure enough the kids made it to school safe and sound and the afternoon was filled with more moaning, groaning and cries of 'Help me...I just can't get warm. What should I do? Should I take a hot shower? Would you get me some more blankets? Check my temperature would you? What do you think is wrong?'

Even the girls didn't moan and groan as much as he has in the last 48 hours!

While I try to smile, be empathic, and put my BEST I want to help you get well face on, if you are a woman reading this may be you feel my pain! I love my husband DEARLY, but the likeness/patience level drops just a bit on the meter during times of flu-like symptoms? You see the reason he is ONLY ill like this intermittently is God KNOWS I can only handle it about once every 5 years!

And so it goes.....I am woman, hear my roar! I best run. Madison needs fetching, supper needs to be prepared, concerts to attend, hair to curl, wash to be done, orders to be filled, and bags packed.

AND.....'I AM NOT GETTING SICK!' or am I?

One of Those Days

The day began at 7:00 AM this morning with a phone call from my mom, sharing that my grandmother had past away during the early hours of the morning. A call I had been anticipating for a few months. A woman of 86 years of age, having lived a full life.

None the less, a call that set into motion an array of feelings, emotions, and a re prioritizing of schedules for the upcoming weekend. The day continued to unfold with Mr. Milo deemed 'officially' couch ridden with fever and body aches. Both girls continued their unceasing coughing and were joined by their father now completely covering every square inch of the sectional adorned with by every pillow and blanket owned.

I love Mr. Milo with every ounce of my being, however a SICK man can just about push a woman over the edge for EVERY cough and sniffle is magnified X10! I muster as much compassion as I can, hoping that he really does know that despite being the LOUDEST sneezer that God placed on this earth, I do feel sorry that he is ill. I listen intently to every last detail as he recaps every shiver and every fever break that occurred during the day.

The kitchen is in complete disarray with glasses, bowls, and plates piled high in the sink. The dishwasher full of clean dishes just waiting for someone to unload them. I notice the dust bunnies gathering for play dates in the far corners of the dining room. The smell of Vicks Vapor rub permeates the house. Every end table is littered with used Kleenexes. NyQuil and Advil replaced pork chops and rice for supper. Wash needs to be done, bills need to be paid, and appointments kept. I wonder how I will possibly make it through the day.

I seemingly convince myself that 'I WILL NOT GET SICK' and repeat this phrase over and over! The 1/2 pan of brownies seems the best solution to all of the above! I limit myself to only ONE VERY LARGE slice making sure that all rows and columns are even. I would hate to have to come back for another swipe. I couple that with a large glass of ice cold milk and just hope that a sugar rush will simply make everything right again.

I know that phone calls need to be made to reschedule prior commitments for the weekend. Riley and Max need a babysitter for Friday and Saturday. The best part of the day was 50 degrees and sunshine which gave me permission to wear my favorite peep toe shoes. Like the weather honestly needs to give me permission. That is quickly dismissed with freezing rain and snow fore casted for tomorrow. Secretly I wish that the weather man is right, so evening school functions are canceled in order to buffer in a few extra hours to prepare to for the weekend.

I walk past the tornado disaster area in every room of the house to find solice in my neatly organized and tidy closet. I find my new favorite pair of silky PJs (ones that I got for Cabo) just hoping that softness against my skin and memories of warm sandy beaches will ease the pending thoughts of everything that needs to be done. I leisurely wash my face and enjoy every application of all 8 products that I just 'KNOW' is slowing my aging process by months and years. I realize that MY COZY BED is now the 'sick' bed for the night so that all three can cuddle up to the recently purchased Vicks Vaporizer to ease their nagging night-time coughs, while I resort to the bed in the basement.

Just as I bend over to put my wash cloth in the basket I am over come with the need to sneeze. A sneeze I know is no where close to what Mr. Milo can muster up, however a sneeze none the less! I brace myself! With no time to 'look to the light', in seconds it over takes me accompanied by a gush of wetness and a slight trickle down my leg! O! GREAT...now I peed my pants!

I remove the silky bottoms and replace them with my sweatpants. I grab my pillow to head to the basement knowing that tomorrow brings a NEW day filled with hope and grace on this amazing journey called LIFE!

Ever had 'one of those days'?

Edible?

Do you NOT want to just EAT this amazing floral arrangement?
It is screaming HONEY DEW!

Japenga House Illness Update

Influenza A & B = negative

Strep Throat = negative

Walking Pneumonia = negative

1 1/2 hours in the doctors office = positive

90 kids out sick at Kennedy's school today = positive

Mr. Milo showing signs of the 'crud' and beginning to enjoy watching marathon epidsodes 'What NOT to Wear.' = POSITIVE!

Still SICK!

My babies are still sick this Tuesday morning. Yesterday I had a day full of appointments and Madison was begging me to stay home. Before December 10th, I would not have even questioned it. After December 10th, has given our family a whole new set of options. Milo had no appointments yesterday so he was deemed the 'sit on the couch cuddler, Kleenex and water runner' for the day. I will have to say that in the last 10 years that has NEVER happened due to the restrains of corporate America and my flexibility of being self-employed.

He COMPLETELY enjoyed himself! He built them a fire and they watched movies all day. This morning, with a slight tickle in his throat I question if he isn't heading in the same direction. Both girls are extremely down and out. I haven't seen either of them this sick for quite awhile.

Madison had RSV as a baby and still to this day, any upper respiratory bug causes her to cough and cough and cough, all day and all night. We take turns sleeping with her, because you don't get a lot of sleep. I feel so sorry for her, going on 72 hours of that has to be exhausting.

Yesterday Kennedy ran a high fever into the night, 101 degrees and was weak enough to need assistance to the bathroom. Gatorade and Popsicles are on the docket for the day!

So today we will tag team in between my schedule and his schedule snuggling and lovin our babies to health! The ONLY good thing about having a 13 and 10 year home sick, is even at that age you can still score some pretty good snuggle sessions!

Sanborn Checkin In

Looks to be a beautiful day. Had a fun time at Claire's birthday party Saturday nite. I think all the kids were a little tired from the waterpark but they all had smiles. Claire should be a real official three.

Jenny stayed overnight with us and went back on Sunday. Dad and I went
and bought some groceries had a late lunch and stopped by Grandmas on the way home. She is sleeping alot now and not quite so ready to talk. Someone is with her all the time. Her blood pressure is good and temperature is stable. She spends all her time out in the front room now.

Smokie had a spa day at the vets last week. This week is a Stephens Minister meet, a quick trip to Sioux Falls on Wednesday, and a board meeting on Thursday. We really have melted our snow and can now see the grass. Yeh!!!

Sharon was showing a family tree that she had worked on. We discovered both of our ancesters were originally from Germany and when Catherine the Great came to power in Russia they all immigrated to Russia. When she was no longer in power and Russia tried to put all the young boys into the military, the Germans then immigrated to the United States. We sat and pondered if perhaps our ancestors came over on the boat together. Interesting!?

Hope you all have a good week:) Hugs to all Mom

TGIF

is that what they say in the 'work world'? OK!

TGIF!

My first 'official' work week just ended about 10 minutes ago, well that is working for another 'employer' other than myself! The boss aka. ME is insisting on another 3 more hours of order filling, phone calls, preparation for tomorrow's skin care/color clinics, and mailing invitations for more upcoming clinics. yada, yada, yada! Man that boss is a tough one! Doesn't' she know I already put in a 6 hour day on the road and was up at the crack of dawn to do so?

On THE road, I LOVE being on the road! In bread at birth I believe from my father, I love hitting the road on a bright sunny day ready to tackle a day of appointments. Today my on-the-job training was running appointments with a wonderful woman, aka. Pat to learn the sales process for selling cremation packages. Yes, you heard right, cremation packages! Believe me, once you hear it, it makes complete sense!

I ask myself, 'Why would I want to take up anymore space after I am dead?' Just toast me up, all nice and warm, scoop me up and put me in a pretty little box (not sure of the color yet), tied with a ribbon and carry me off too _____? I haven't decided that one yet either! Then sprinkle me a bit here and a bit there of course mixed together with my favorite man in my life and let us gently and effortlessly blow away together! Sounds, utterly romantic!

So after some good ole Iowa country farm land windshield time, Pat and I arrived successfully back to Cedar Rapids with two more signed contracts and possibly a third one on Monday. That added to her 10 for the week deemed the week a complete success!

I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all sorts of new people this week. Passing my 'label' test (right, Wendy?), getting that looming question answered, 'Did you really want to be a funeral director when you were growing up?' AND just learning all sorts of NEW things!

Kennedy and Madison were in utter shock on Sunday when I shared a bit about my new job venture. "You are working, WHERE?" I simply responded with 'A mom has to do what a mom has to do for her young ins!'

Monday I arrived home from my day and I shouted, 'Honey, I am home from WORK!" He immediately greeted me at the door with a HUGE hug and kiss! YUM!

By Wednesday, Madison was asking 'So how was work mom? Did anyone get cremated today?'

And on Thursday, Kennedy inquired, 'EXACTLY what ARE you doing there?'

So an interesting, fun and enjoyable week it has been! Coupled with the continued growth and success of Reveal. The products were flying off the shelf this week along with 2 clinics on the books for tomorrow, pending our 'snow storm'. No school today (Friday) and no school on Monday. WHOOO!

We transitioned back to 'life' well following our beautiful trip to Cabo just a week ago! WOW! A week has gone by already?

Well, the BOSS is telling me it is time to get to work and stop 'messing around'. I best obey, don't want to lose this job!

Have a 'snow filled' weekend?

Birthday Recap

Well, it's official... she's three! Here she is blowing out the final candle on the DQ birthday cake. The highlights of her day were definitely, (1) the birthday sticker that she got to wear at daycare, (2) showing off her new talent of holding up three fingers, (3) reminding anyone who would listen that "I'm not 2 anymore!" and (4) the bike and helmet combo. As you can see, she even wore the bike helmet even for cake!

I can't even believe she turned three. I swear that I must have blinked and POOF there went the last three years. I know, I know...I am not saying anything that you all don't already know and feel. But man, where does the time go? And why does it have to go by so fast?

This weekend, we are traveling to Okoboji for the 2nd annual Wynja Waterpark Weekend, to which we are tagging on a birthday party for Claire! The kids have woke up almost everyday asking "Is today the day we go to the waterpark?" We are all quite excited. It should be a lot of fun!!

Here are a few more highlights from the night...

Here she is showing off her new talent...three fingers!!

Oh no!! I have cursed my child with the dreaded "look away from the camera" syndrome!! Come one I know I got some good laughs from that... because her eyes are like every picture I ever took from age 3 through 9!! Also notice new knee pads!!And here is the new bike!!

Take care everyone! Hey...tomorrow's Friday!!! Yeehaw!!!

Claire Bear turns 3 today!

Claire is my niece from Dell Rapids, SD and is cute as a button! So cute, you could literally eat her up! I love Claire Bear and can't wait until she is the ripe ole age of 5 to attend Cousin Camp!

Here she is with her 'naughty' Uncle Milo! Shortly before she turned 2, every time she saw her Uncle Milo, we taught her to say, 'No, No, Milo!' AND while growing into and through her 2's it has stuck!
NO, NO Milo & Claire Bear

Happy Birthday Claire Bear!

P.S. I am taking a phatfamily blogging break for awhile. Time is needed to think, explore, ponder, and work through some things.

The 'not so good' Toothfairy

The tooth fairy came today via Gentle Dental (where the dental is NOT gentle) is what the girls say every time we drive by.

Madison had her FIRST tooth extraction. I could tell she was a bit nervous when I picked her up from school. To add MORE fuel to the fire, when we got there she had to watch a video presentation on having 'surgery'. That added a few more butterflies to ones already fluttering around!

Of course she came through with flying colors and realized that it was NOT that big of a deal.

I am NOT a tooth person! I can't stand the sight of loose teeth, listening to a tooth wiggle, or even the tooth itself after it has been pulled. Give me blood and guts any day over ANYTHING to do with teeth. Seriously! my gag reflex kicks in!

So I am standing at the check-out counter ready to pay for this tooth extraction and schedule the next appointment to have a spacer implanted, when out of NO WHERE comes a LARGE disgusting, root laden, discolored tooth shoved in my face.

'Look at my tooth MOM!'

Immediately followed up with 'How much do you think the tooth fairy is going to give me tonight?'

Trying hard to restrain the bile juices that were rising in the back of my throat, I manage to get out. '$53.46 paid directly to Gentle Dental, where the dental is NOT gentle.'

The blurriness of the picture is my hand shaking and my whole fetish with teeth completely explains why the tooth fairy after 10+ baby teeth in our house has NEVER once made the money to tooth exchange ON TIME! She is always a day late and usually a dollar short!

Bile juices are inching their way back up just recapping the entire experience, therefore my better judgement indicates that this is..........

THE END

MEATBALLS

Good Morning Everyone--

Yesterday Julie called and asked me the difference between Swedish meatballs and Koenigsberger Klops(German Meatballs). Well I always used beef in my meatballs (German) and I always added worchestersire sauce. It looks like Swedish tend to add veal or pork with beef and a touch of nutmeg. I would also guess a good German may have a tankard of ale with their meatballs where I am not so sure a Swede would do that. Then there are hamballs and Italian meatballs. What are they all about?Any other thoughts on meatballs.

Glad your day is over, Em. I am sure it is a relief to have that behind you.

Talked to Kevin and Jason yesterday. Everyone sounds busy. Big birthday number THREE coming up this week for Claire Bear.

Love to all Mom

Can't wait for your party!♥

Happy Be-Lated Valentines Day!

Each year our family has two special dinners, one on Halloween and one on Valentines Day. The menu never changes and it has become something that the girls look forward to each year. We exchanges valentines with each other. Milo always brings home a rose for each of us and we go around the table and share what we love about each person. Frank Sinatra sings to us in the background and some years the girls dance with their daddy.

Since Mr. Milo and I got home late on Saturday, we celebrated last night.

The Menu
Heart Shaped Meatloaf
Daddios Mash Potatoes
Tiny Tot Peas
Brownies
Milk and Water

I guess good luck is in order for Em today for whatever that may be?

GOOD LUCK!

I'm B....A....C....K!

Did you miss me?

I am getting ready to go from 80 degrees to 30 degrees in a matter of a few hours. We had an incredible vacation. Mr. Milo is packing up as I type. I have about an hour before I have to jump in the shower and pack the last few 'get ready items'. Over breakfast this morning, we both agreed that we were gone the exact amount of time. We are anxious to get home to the girls and pets, our bed, and back to the 'routine' of life. Yet, we feel relaxed and made the most of every minute spent together. Six days of uninterrupted Milo and Jill time or in Mexico they call us 'Melo and Gell'. Si Senorita!

I have over 150 pictures to download and do some editing with as that is on my to-do list for tomorrow and am anxious to share!

After an uneventful trip to San Jose Cabo, we checked into the Royal Solaris, an all-inclusive. We had never experienced an all-inclusive before and it was wonderful to NOT have to get our wallet out for every meal and drink we ordered. Although we certainly would not rave about the food, the resort was well maintained, service was a 'bit' slow, and we learned that a Mexican minute = 15 - 30 US minutes. We met some great people there. Joe and Brandy from Washington DC, married 4 years. They were traveling with Bill and Bilanca from Denver, CO who were married for 10 years and had 4 children under the age of 10. Both were in the air force and met while stationed in Hawaii. Then there was Brittany and Dustin. They had been married 7 months, of which most of it he was stationed as a Marine in Iraq. Milo and I laughed as we both agreed we were looking back in time to about 15 years ago to our relationship as we observed their dynamics.

Monday through Thursday was spent enjoying pool time, daily walks on the beach, and staying up WAY too late!

Thursday morning we moved over to Cabo San Lucas, about a 25 minute commute to 'The Bungalow'. The Bungalow is a B&B that when planning and researching the trip was noted to be the #1 place to stay in Cabo San Lucas. The reviews were DEAD ON! A local family owns and operates the 16 unit tucked in a residential part of the city. A bit off of the beaten path, but only a 20 minute walk from the downtown buzz, it was probably close to one of the BEST places we have ever stayed. Eric met us when we checked with a HUGE hug! He is by far the BEST hugger I have ever known. Over and over as he gave us the tour of the facility and our 'bungalow' he kept saying, 'Welcome Home, Welcome Home!' The breakfast each morning was INCREDIBLE, with multiple flavors bursting forth, you just never knew what was coming next. Hibiscus juice made from hibiscus flowers, this amazing french toast with ricotta cheese and pecans in the middle, topped with grilled bananas. YUM!

I will admit I ate like a PIG this week and am PROUD of it!

Thursday and Friday were deemed as our excursion days. Thursday we went whaling watching in the Pacific ocean. 10 life vested tourist piled into a inflated 'speed' boat and we zoomed through the Sea of Cortes, around Lovers Beach to the Pacific ocean. Within minutes we spotted two Humpback whales, a mom and her pup. We continued to follow them for the next 40 minutes. It was an amazing site as we witnessed them diving and jumping. At one point the mama was about 80% out of the water. Do you think a 42 ton creature approximately 50 yards from you can make a splash? It was an experience I will never forget! I remember as we left the marina looking into the bright blue sky and thanking, God for his incredible creation.

After whale watching we jumped on a sunset cruise where we feasted on a Mexican buffet and enjoyed meeting 4 couples from Cedar Falls and Fairfield, Iowa as well as a couple from the heart of Chicago. He was Catholic and she was Jewish. He worked at a grocery store and she owned an ad agency. They had been married for 26 years and had much wisdom to share. They had just finished supporting their son through law school. They lived a simple life and what I loved was he shot you straight when you talked to him! He had that downtown heart of Chicago accent and I believe he had seen and experienced MUCH in his life. After a full day in the sun we ventured up the HUGE hill back to our 'bungalow'.

Friday we decided to be EXTREME and go zip lining. Mr. Milo laughed at what an 'extremist' I have become over the years! I love trying new things, in part to his willingness to always go along! We zoomed 400 - 500 feet above the canyons at speeds up to 50 mph! We even got to rappel down a 200 foot cliff. While I was not at all scared about the experience, it was the large picture of a diamond back rattler at the check-in counter that sparked some trepidation. I immediately went over to our guide and said, 'Are snakes out there?' Like duh...look at the rocky, catus laden, sandy terrain, Jill? He just gave me a big hug and said, 'Don't be scared'. I did however keep careful watch as I climbed high into the cliffs to our destination!

Back to our bungalow for our last night on the town! Eric recommended this Argentina steakhouse within a few blocks of our pad. We ventured out for our first 'meal' out and by far were not disappointed. A 'local' establishment off the beaten path, and from the outside not a place one might choose, but the food was INCREDIBLE. The meat literally melted in your mouth and the Merlot, by far the best I had ever had! We decided to call it an 'early' night, in bed by 9:00 for our long trip home.

And so here I am with only a few more minutes until the shower and suitcases stake claim to my last few hours in Mexico. Melo just gave me a 15 minute warning.

If I had to summarize in only a few sentences what was the biggest highlight of the trip. First I loved meeting all sorts of people and simply sitting and listening to their stories. How easily we get caught in our 'box of life'. How easily we forget how much is out there past the confines of my 'town'. EVERYONE has a story to share and because of their story they made a mark on my life forever.

And of course, reconnecting with Mr. Melo. Wednesday was our last walk on the beach and our conversation turned to love. Love is something that is hard for me to express and often times to give. We stopped for a moment and as tears filled my eyes, I simply thanked him for teaching me over the last 19 years that it is OK to give and to receive unconditional love. Love that is not tied to something I do or say. Because of him I am learning to do that better and better everyday. It was an amazing trip and ended on Valentines Day!

AND finally for the rest of the details?
'What happens in CABO, stays in CABO'!

Sunday, February 15th. 6:20 PM. Wash almost done, groceries purchased for the week, supper in the oven, girls home and sitters paid. We are celebrating Valentines Day today as a family! Enjoy pictures from last week. The girls were a bit home-sick, both decided to come home yesterday and spend the day together at home, until we got home around 11:00. It was a great surprise to be able to kiss their sweet faces and tuck them in!

Monday brings my to-do list, the start of my NEW job, and back to the routine of our lives! I am very excited!

Happy Belated Valentines Day!

Hey Fam!!!

Hello everyone from DRSD!!! We are winding down a crazy week at our house, and the kids and I are looking forward to a four day weekend! Yahoo!! No school Friday or Monday. We all need it.

Geez... when was the last time I blogged?!?! It was probably before my concert trip to Omaha. That was sooooo fun. My friend Kathy and I saw Darius Rucker (a.k.a. Hootie from Hootie and the Blowfish), Dierks Bentley, and Brad Paisley. Kathy said we were swimming in "hot guy soup". Regardless of the view, it was a really, really fun concert. We drove into my driveway at 3:30 am. I don't really remember the last time I tip-toed into the house at that time. I completely missed the entire Super Bowl the next day to catch up on sleep! Totally worth it though!

Carter has been busy snowmobiling on "what he claims is his" snowmobile. He started out at 20 mph and said that was really going fast, but by last weekend says he was jumping ramps (snow drifts) on the lake and "Guess what mom? The WHOLE snowmobile was off the ground!!!!!" Hmmm... Kevin assures me not to worry. But now all of our snow is gone, so he either wants it to snow a lot more or he wants summer to happen RIGHT NOW (so he can skateboard). Carter just got his piano music for his spring recital this week. And he is pumped about his Valentine's party tomorrow. His valentine's box looks like a LEGO, pretty cool!!

Claire is anxiously waiting her birthday next week. Thanks Jill for the gift... just got it today. We picked up a new bike for her big gift with a new helmet. I am so excited to see her reaction. Yet another reason for spring/summer to come! Claire is big into drawing faces... you should see her impression of Kevin. Not to shabby, she even includes the whiskers! It's pretty funny!! She has her Valentine's party at daycare tomorrow. I can't imagine how all 9 boys she goes to daycare with are going to enjoy princess valentines! ha!!

So that's the update from us. Oh... Kevin is doing well too! Sorry no picture!! Hope everyone is healthy and doing well.

TTYL!

Everyone Has Got To Start Somewhere!

O! the fresh clean smell of bleach and pine sol! We just wrapped up house cleaning for the week. Being Saturday, we had two extra helpers who got inducted to toilets and bathtubs. Everyone has to start some where, you can't just get promoted to vacuuming immediately!

Just a few more phone calls to make, pedicure, spray tan, and packing left on the to do list. Might even have some time for a bit of scrap booking this weekend! Tomorrow night we farm out the kids and pets to their appropriate places for the week.

Grandpa Gary and The Mo left this morning after Mo made breakfast for the crew! Made to order, I may add! They are headed back to Sanborn, then back to ID on Wednesday after they pick up Molly in Pella. We enjoyed our time together. I think it was a grieving trip, post Ms. Annie going to doggie heaven. They needed a grand kid and grand-dog fix for the week. It is nice that they have the flexibility in their lives to do so!

I am off to enjoy a run outside in some 50 degree weather! Hot dog! Then wrapping up the weekly wash and start some packing. Meals for the weekend are whatever is in the fridge or cupboards to literally clean it out! I even got my grocery list and meal plans done for the week we get back to make an easy transition back to 'the real world'! A week of no commitments, phone calls, to-do lists, and email is CALLING my name!

Kennedy auditioned this week for the middle school talent show and MADE IT! She is playing a piece on the piano that she composed! It is unbelievably impressive! Especially given that she has never taken piano lessons.

The sun and pavement are calling my name, better.....RUN!

P.S.
Got a part-time job this week at Cedar Memorial (funeral home) and Crematorium to help the fam out financially! 20 hours/week 10:00 - 2:00 everyday. Start day is February 16th! Should be 'interesting'. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Also scheduled an ala cart Reveal Day for March, an in home ward-robe make-over! Somebody called me! YEAH! Plus have 10 color/skin care clinics booked for the last two weeks of February! WHEW! Better rest up next week for a rockin two weeks when we get back! Milo had his first 3 sales last week YEAH! and also has 7 appointments up for the week we get back from Cabo! We are also meeting that week with a graphic designer about logo and web site development for his new company he is starting, 'Financial Fitness For Life'. Things are starting to bubble in the Japenga household!

P.P.S.
Milo is pursuing PT for his shoulder and trying a non-invasive back treatment involving extensive stretching of him back, allowing room for the herniation to go back in place! I guess when he is on the table he is as tall as 6 foot! It is very expensive and not covered by insurance, however our hope is to avoid surgery! I hope it 'sticks' (meaning his back treatment and the HEIGHT! ;-)

P.S. I Got a part-time job this week at Cedar Memorial (funeral home) and Crematorium to help the fam out financially! 20 hours/week 10:00 - 2:00 everyday. Start day is February 16th! Should be 'interesting'. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Also scheduled an ala cart Reveal Day for March, an in home ward-robe make-over! Somebody called me! YEAH! The MO and Mr. Milo

This is The Mo-Mo talking on her phone! That phone rings non stop. This is Riley getting EXTRA attention this week from the MO and Grandpa Gary, especially while they are in limbo waiting for their NEW PUPPY! The MO is making us homemade Carmel rolls TODAY! She made this SUPER delicious Mexican dip last night before she raved about my ham balls, of which she claims she has NEVER had in her 62 years of life. The Heath Bars were also I hit, so she is stealing a few recipes to take back to the camp, where she cooks.

Only 68 hours and counting til Mr. Milo and I are whisked AWAY! The Mo claims that the Mexico economy is tanking therefore they are kidnapping American tourist. I said, 'A week alone with THIS man, I will take the RISK.' Stay tuned, Sunday may be my last blog entry! She has already claimed my washer and dryer and living room sectional. Anyone else want to stake claim on a few items before we leave?

DARN, he is good lookin!

I especially like it when he wears the hat backwards! AND when he is in his business suit, after a long day at work with the tie loosened at the neck mixed with the smell of his cologne! YUM!

TO KEVIN

CAN YOU DECODE THIS?

TO JULIE

SINCE YOU PROBABLY CAN'T PULL THIS UP AT SCHOOL ON YOUR EMAIL I AM SENDING INSPIRATION VIA THE BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meet Molly
5 week old liver and white English Springer Spaniel and the newest Springer to be added to the Japenga clan next Tuesday!

Isn't she too CUTE? Mo-Mo and Grandpa Gary arrived yesterday from Idaho. We thought we were road tripping to Pella today to pick her up, however she will not be ready until next Tuesday due a vet visit. DARN!

So we got treated last night to Applebees, good food and good conversation.

I am hanging out today at home in between a few appointments at the studio. Milo took the day off. Madison is to headed to the dentist this morning to get a cavity filled (we think). Guess she shouldn't have been 'talking smack' in December to her sister.

Kennedy had her last two BB games on Monday and Tuesday. She showed major improvement and we had to do some coaching that she was playing basketball NOT football. She has the fouls and bruises to prove it! We have a month off from school activities until TRACK starts in late March.

Checked the weather forecast for Monday in CR. 40 degrees and rain. Should have NO travel problems! So my checklist is unfolding as planned! My few new pieces of clothing are awaiting anxiously to join the others to fit nice and snug in my suitcase! I LOVE shopping and this time is was an EXTRA SPECIAL TREAT because I had not been for a long while and it was already worked into our vacation budget! I took EXTRA time having fun trying on ALL sorts of new creations! All next week is 80 degrees during the day in Cabo and 60 at night!

Concert Band Tape to come later! It is taking FOREVER to upload!

Gotta run, shower for a 10:00 dentist appointment date!

Reader Discretion is Advised!

To think of something that is disgusting the first thing that comes to mind is a porta potty. Would you agree? Do you DREAD visiting one? Have you ever heard the story of a person getting locked in and then it being tipped over? It is not only the smell that can knock one out, but for me it is what lies at the bottom. When I lift up the lid and look down, YUCK! Human waste!

Come on, we all have it! You and the people you live with 'pitch a loaf', 'drop a cannon', and 'take a duke'. Sometimes it smells so bad that even air fresheners can't mask the odor that exudes from under the door. When using a pubic restroom you flush the toilet so the person next to you, can't hear you 'let it rip'. When visiting someones home, you hope that no one will be waiting to use the bathroom after you just dumped a load!

I insist that when we stay in a hotel, that morning function be performed in the bathroom located in the lobby. I consider it a fire hazard. In a small hotel room, I could light a match and set the place on fire!

May be by now you are thinking I have completely lost it. This is disgusting and how inappropriate! Hopefully, I have made you uncomfortable as you visioned what lies in the depths of a porta potty and you remembered the odor that exudes from the bathroom. I hate to say it, but it is only going to get worse. You may want to consider the option of clicking the X in the upper right hand corner of your screen because this is going to STINK!

If you struggle seeing authenticity. If it is scary for you to witness vulnerability. If you can't handle the truth, then reader discretion is ADVISED! Please DO NOT read any further.

'By this time there was a bad odor for he had been there four days.' John 11:39

Yep, by the time Jesus showed up Lazarus had been dead for 4 days. When Jesus called out and asked the stone to be moved, Martha objected because the odor would be an unbearable. When Lazarus appeared on-lookers turned away, others shielded themselves from the odor, and I am guessing that even some ran away. But NOT Jesus, He hangs out in places that stink!

We try to cover up our stench. We speak in vague generalities about our addictions and hang-ups. We think, I don't do drugs, have a drinking problem, or gamble. Society has classified those addictions as ones that need help! When in reality they are NO different than the addictions we suffer from daily. We like to stay contained in our porta potties, hoping that no one will ask to use it.

Have you ever been waiting in line to use one? As each person comes out, what do you hear? Do the doors ease shut? Instead you here Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang.....and the people exiting immediately leave the scene. They don't want to be accused of what they 'just left'. They don't want to 'claim' what is rightfully theirs.

I have been accused of thinking that MY POOP doesn't STINK! When in fact it stinks a lot!

I want a closer more authentic relationship with Jesus AND with those around me. I have a deep longing need to be transformed, to break old habits, and create healthy ones. But before I can do this, I have to get rid of the things that smell. When I ignore the stench, I only suppress it so it can come back again leaving me to grow sicker and sicker! Transformation is a process that will only be complete when I am living in my eternal home. For now, in order to grow I have to be willingly to admit my short comings and share my stench from the past and the present. I also need to knock on some doors and ask to come in, no matter HOW bad the smell.

So I need to air my stench! I want to continue transformation and give permission to others to do the same. The Bible says that we are given trials to learn from, so that we can be a witness to others struggling with the same addictions. When I open the door to my porta potty, I know that some will run, others will listen with their nose covered, and some may even take a step forward. I also know that Jesus already knows my stench. He is waiting for me to open my door and say come in. He is wanting me to share, openly and honestly with others. He will not flee. He will not cover His nose. He will lift His head high and take in my stench. WHY? Because Jesus LOVES smelly people!

When I open the door of my porta potty and it would smell like this.

Hi. I am Jill Japenga and I really stink. I am a wife, mother, friend, daughter, sister, and business woman who has over come trials with the help of my Savior, yet I still struggle daily with hang ups and addictions. Past stenches in my life include battling depression to the brink of suicidal thoughts. Being emotionally attracted to man other than my husband. I yell and scream at my children and spouse spouting out hurtful words. I have mismanaged my finances and incurred debt over $50,000 not once, but three times. I buy things to get a quick fix. I abuse food in excess and in scarcity to fill deep voids. I over eat in secret. I try to control things. I cover up my short falls, by 'looking good' on the outside. I have lied to cover up my addictions. I am greedy, selfish, and passive aggressive. I question my capabilities as a parent. I have a hard time feeling loved.

It stinks, doesn't it?

However ONE THING I know for SURE is that no matter who runs or who stays, Jesus is here, every day and in every way. I know that I am an ordinary woman with everyday hang ups and addictions. I know that every day I desire to grow and walk in my faith for I know that it is the ONLY way to overcome my addictions. I know that I am learning to receive and to give love, to forgive and to extend grace. I know that EVERY day my addictions have been forgive and my slate made clean, yet I am still excepted to rely on Him to become healthier each day. I know am learning to invite others into my porta potty and to knock on the doors of those around me. I know I will be rejected and let down. I also know that some will let me in and those invitations will make the rejections seem minuscule.

Chris Tomlin said it best, 'There are ONLY two things to do in this life. The first is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, and your mind. The second is to love your neighbor as your self. When you focus on those TWO things there is no end to how you will transform yourself and be a light that shines for others to see.'

Welcome to my Porta Potty.

Houston Warm Weather Update...

Hi Everyone,
What a quick weekend! Our weekend was filled with duct tape, warm weather, a grandma visit, and the super bowl.
Friday (my friends are supposed to be sending me pictures) Jason was duct taped to the wall...did it work, well; if they would have put him up higher it would have(scary I know) when they took the board out the sag that happened made him touch the floor...darn a lot of work for not a lot of excitement. The 80s themed Snow Days dance was Friday night. Grandma Deb got into town Friday in time for the games. Saturday was consumed with baking cookies, ice fishing, and making a snow man. Sunday was Super Bowl party at Thompson's (that means sledding...BIG hills). Even after making Hayden take a face of snow she laughed and signed more, more, more. She wasn't just going to sit there and watch all of the fun. During the game Macin grazed and grazed the food selection, then spun around and around in a chair (because that is what a group of girls does together) we will let you use your imagination to determine what happened when she settled down at home for the night.
So, that is the Freed update...there will be lots of graduate school work and Fitness Center visits this week with a parent teacher conference and scrapbooking built into the week as well.
Have a wonderful week and I will get pictures posted as soon as I get them. There may be some action sledding shots as well :)
